Welcome to the Town of Red Cliff
Red Cliff is the oldest town in Eagle County. It was the first County Seat for Summit County, which included the current areas of Summit and Eagle Counties. At 8,650 feet above sea level, Red Cliff boomed at the turn of the century as a mining town with saloons, a bank, sawmills and even an opera house. The town established in 1879, was mapped and patented in 1883 by the U.S. Government.
Today it is a quaint mountain community that continues to attract rugged individualists from business entrepreneurs to outdoor enthusiasts. The town is made up of friendly people with a mountain frontier attitude. Many residents and tourists alike enjoy mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, kayaking, fly fishing, rock climbing and hiking with fantastic wildflower viewing, all within and around Red Cliff. From Red Cliff, you get close-up views and easy access to the Mount of the Holy Cross and the surrounding White River National Forest.
Red Cliff is located off the Colorado Scenic Byway, Highway 24. You'll often see classic cars and motorcycles parked in front of the Mango's Restaurant of the Green Bridge Inn. Red Cliff is 20 miles North of Leadville, CO, the highest incorporated city in the U.S. and less than 15 miles from the center of Vail, a world-famous ski resort. The Town of Red Cliff is also accessible via Vail Pass off of I-70 and over Shrine Pass, a 12-mile dirt road, by car, dirt bike or four-wheeler in the Summertime or cross-country skis and snowmobiles in the Winter.
